Biographical Notes:

design element

Director of the Dispute Resolution Program at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.   25 years legal experience, arbitrator since 1990, mediator since 1998. Represented plaintiffs and defendants nearly equally in litigation practice.

Teresa has mediated and arbitrated hundreds of cases and has taught mediation skills and/or international arbitration to law students, lawyers and judges in the U.S and Europe. Teresa has been named an Illinois Leading Lawyer by her peers in the areas of Alternative Dispute Resolution/Employment, ADR/Commercial Litigation and ADR/International.

As a mediator, Teresa possesses strong skills that help her bring parties to resolution in hotly contested business, employment, trust/estates and other emotionally-charged litigation.  Viewing the problem broadly and using caucus selectively, she is able to use a variety of mediation strategies to assist the parties in communicating, identifying interests and reaching a creative resolution.  As an arbitrator she manages the arbitration actively using such techniques as thorough pre-hearing conferences, and she is not hesitant to apply the law.  She has also completed ACESIN training in electronic discovery disputes.

Teresa has acted as a neutral and has represented clients in a wide variety of cases over the years.  Just a few examples include: serving as a mediator in a medical software partnership break-up; serving as a mediator in a contentious estate dispute involving seven siblings; serving as an arbitrator in a hotly contested employment non-compete dispute; representing a celebrity martial artist in a privacy rights dispute with the maker of a well-known martial arts video game; representing a contractor in a federal court trial under the Clean Air Act; serving as a mediator in a commercial property dispute involving allegations of fraud; defending a Fortune 500 long-time client in a wrongful death case; representing an elderly motel owner with a disabled spouse in obtaining damages and the return of real estate; representing a doctor in a professional license proceeding; and serving as a mediator in a multi-plaintiff sexual harassment case.

Formerly a partner at Foran & Schultz, Teresa is Of Counsel to DeGrand & Wolfe, P.C
