The Academy has worked cooperatively with various bodies to ensure that only the most experienced professionals are included in our member roster. Note though that there are no formal certification requirements for the private practice of mediation or arbitration in Illinois.

Resolution Systems Institute

llinois is unique among the states in that it has an independent non-profit organization, Resolution Systems Institute, working with the courts to develop and monitor ADR programs. In addition to the information listed here, the Sourcebook features a history of court ADR in the state, as well as program descriptions and mediation statistics. Court Annexed Mediation Program

Although Illinois has no statewide mediation program or a formal certification process for the practice of civil mediation, Cook County was one of the first in the state to formulate a court-annexed mediation program under Rule 20. Please see more information on this program here.

Illinois State Bar, ADR Section

The State Bar's ADR Section is open to any members of the bar with an interest in Alternative Dispute Resolution and informs its members regularly on all developments relating to ADR law and practice. Visit website here.


Mediation Council of Illinois

The Mediation Council of Illinois is a professional membership organization that provides the general public with information about family mediators throughout the state of Illinois. Those family mediators who are listed on the MCI Referral Directory have met MCI's membership requirements for education and training. The council is committed to promoting mediation as an effective means to address family conflict by increasing public awareness and advancing professional development.
